Native trees distributed as part of The Hare's Corner initiative, sponsored by FuturEnergy Ireland

Last week FuturEnergy Ireland team members attended The Hare's Corner event in Leitrim, where native trees were given to local schools, farmers, community groups and private landowners. More than 5,000 trees and planting guidelines were handed out on the day to Hare's Corner participants.

Among the trees distributed were Birch, Alder, Hawthorn, Hazel, Holly, Spindle, Oak and rarer species including Burren Pine, Wych Elm, Aspen and Black Poplar. The Burren Pine is Ireland's only native pine tree. It once covered much of the country, but the species was thought to have become extinct 1,500 years ago until a handful were discovered on a tiny patch of the Burren.

The Hare's Corner, a BurrenBeo initiative, was launched this year in Co Leitrim, sponsored by FuturEnergy Ireland and Leitrim County Council's Biodiversity Office. The initiative offers local landowners ‘hassle-free’ support to carry out simple yet powerful actions for biodiversity.
