This role will provide grid and electrical engineering advice to the business at all stages of the project life cycle (from development through to construction) for its portfolio of onshore wind, solar, storage and other strategic projects.
Responsibilities
Planning and Development Phase
- Provide grid and electrical engineering advice for potential projects.
- Management of external consultants and contractors.
- Assist with early-stage site screening and grid feasibility studies.
- Advise project team of requirements of, and/or changes to, System Operator specifications. Review of final planning application drawings for compliance with latest specifications.
- Provide grid input and early-stage design information for projects to identify and assess potential project risks at the planning stage.
Grid Connection Applications and System Operator
- Assist with the connection offer process including preparation of grid connection applications and SLDs to EirGrid/ESBN and engaging with key external grid stakeholders for projects in both pre-planning and post-planning stages of development.
- Review of grid connection offers.
- Assist with the EBOP and Grid tender processes.
- Assist project teams to ensure grid connections and EBOP are delivered to FuturEnergy Ireland and System Operator requirements.
- Assist with management and delivery of Grid Code compliance activities.
- Maintain a high level of industry awareness in particular regarding grid policy and regulatory changes.
- Represent FEI on industry working groups in bodies such as Wind Energy Ireland and Energy Storage Ireland.
Delivery Phase
- Review of and comment on Electrical specifications for inclusion in tender competitions
- Specification and procurement of electrical studies such as dispatch down, electrical losses, grid code compliance studies.
- Management of due diligence electrical queries raised by project lenders.
- Review and comment on preliminary and detailed grid designs prior to installation including the specification of long lead electrical components.
- Review of and comment on electrical testing programmes from electrical systems and turbine suppliers.
- Provide support to the Construction Managers with respect to interactions between the Turbine Supply, Civil and Electrical balance of plant contractors.
- Lead interaction with EirGrid and ESB Networks in relation to the implementation of the Grid Connection Agreement.
- Management of the obligations that arise under the grid connection agreement.
- On-site monitoring of electrical installations works in accordance with agreed specification, national electrical standards.
- Review of method statements and risk assessments.
- In conjunction with the Owner’s Engineer, identification defects, drafting and close out of snag list/punch list items.
- Review and comment of Electrical Contractor claims for payments.

Desired Technical/Professional Competencies:
- Undergraduate or higher degree in electrical engineering or other similar technical discipline.
- 5 years engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a comparable role in Energy or a related sector such as infrastructure delivery or utilities.
- A strong understanding of all elements of HV Substation system design and EBOP specification preparation, tender evaluation and standards.
- Strong commercial, project management and design review capability.
- Experience in delivery of wind, solar and/or battery storage projects including Grid Code Compliance Testing.
- Experience with grid connection policies, rules and regulations.
